Minutes of the DSROA Board Meeting
February 26, 2004, in Nyle's Office
Others
present: Taylor and Barbara Button, Joe
McElroy
Larry
Clarkson conducted as Phillip Hall was in Salt Lake City on business. Lee Bellar was
unable to make it because of so much snow on the roads. Art Ortolani and Tom Massengale
were ill. Because there were not enough board members present, motions could
not be made or passed.
The
following items were discussed.
An
official vote was not possible. The
position was not filled.
Taylor Button presented numbers regarding the costs associated with the grader. Following is a list of costs as per Taylor's estimate:
$15.00 per hour for Labor
to run grader
$ 7.50 per hr for fuel ( 5
gal X 1.50 per gal = 7.50)
$ 1.00 per hr for oil,
filters, grease, etc.
$ 2.00 per hr for service
time (The service hours are not charged to the member for work hrs)
$10.00 per hr general upkeep
(tires, batteries, minor repairs -$2000 per yr
divided by 200 hrs of useable time)
$12.00 per hr for
depreciation ( $30K cost of grader with interest divided by 2500 running hours)
Total per hour cost on grader is $47.50 (approximately)
The point Taylor made was that the grader is not a "money-making" machine. If we have even one major repair (over $2000- a transmission would cost $10,000 plus), the grader is a "lose- money" machine. We need to be very careful how much and how hard we work the grader. Pushing heavy snow or trying to dig large rocks up with the grader might not be in the best interest of the ranch. "Just something to think about,"he said.
The condition of the roads was discussed. It was suggested that straw bales be put in the bar pits where the bar pits are continuing to get deeper and deeper with each storm from the run off. The screened gravel hauled on the Broad Hollow Road last fall is not a satisfactory product. It is very boggy and is just ending up in the bar pits. From now on, it was the suggestion that only crushed gravel be applied as a top coat. Although, it was suggested that we try some of the cinders found on the ranch properties as a top coat. Larry Clarkson will talk to the members who own the lots with the cinders to see if they would consider the idea. Barbara to find out if the Kane County is crushing more gravel in the near future. If so, can the ranch get more crushed gravel at that time?
One member has contacted Barbara with interest in the Board's offer to connect to the water line up to the 40,000 gallon water tank. The Board will work on the details of the
issue. (Since the meeting, two more
members have expressed interest.)
Saturday, September 18, 2004, for set as the date for this year's annual meeting. It will be held at the ranch with a barbeque like last year.
The next Board Meeting will
be held following the March Workshop on March 27.
